There’s some lycanthrope blood on your Polaroid camera..

Brigitte Fitzgerald (Emily Perkins) and Ginger Fitzgerald (Katharine Isabelle) in their basement/bedroom.
It’s suburban hell for sisters Ginger and Brigitte Fitzgerald in the town of Bailey Downs. The opening to the town itself gives a murky mood to the scene of a child playing in a sandbox; his mother gathering up leaves in the yard. The scene escalates to a family dog being a ‘beast of bailey downs’ victim. The sound of a scream from the mother coincide with images of blood trailing from the yard to a messed up doghouse. Their beloved dog was once chained — now torn away and eaten. A series of canine murders keep erupting on the daily, and your neighbors’ dog Norman won’t stop barking.
“Shut up, Norman.”-Brigitte

A DEATH PACT — “Out by sixteen, dead on the scene, but together forever.”
The sisters, as you may notice while watching the film, are pretty morbid. From the items they used for their death project for school (fake blood and guts for example) to dinner table banter about diseases like “Spondylitis”; pens shaped like bones, and matching bird skull necklaces. The characters are relatable in this way of being outcast by school mates and misunderstood by parents Pamela and Henry. The girls made a blood oath at age eight; which is reintroduced in the movie by Ginger. “It’s the pact — We swore we’d go together one way or another.”

“Highschool. Just a mindless little breeders machine.”

Ginger Snaps dives right into the high-school stereotypes: Preps, Jocks, Nerds, occasional werewolf casualty, no biggie. The sisters have bigger problems on their hands- and that’s their battle with the Beast of Bailey Downs itself….and late menstruation — or shall I say, “the curse”. While Ginger is attacked by the beast and becomes inflicted by it, subtle mental and physical changes begin to occur. Ginger’s attitude starts to change towards Brigitte and she becomes popular within parts of the school. Brigitte hangs back, but works with Sam(played by Kris Lemche) to cure Gingers’ werewolf ailments — which he thought were Brigitte’s. Sam is keen to botany, and the two do some science to create a serum to fix Ginger.

Wicked! A Halloween party —

Brigitte scolding Ginger for infecting a classmate
The transformation of Ginger into Ginger-wolf is done effectively and mildly as to not be overdone, in terms of practical effects! Brigitte still holds strong; she tries to protect Ginger even when feeling threatened by her and the break of ‘the pact’. When Ginger goes to attend a Halloween party at Sam’s greenhouse, she starts to change. Sam thought he would jump in and save the day for Brigitte — when he hits Ginger over the head with a shovel, knocking her out cold.
Brigitte: ‘Just help me, okay? Just get her in your truck and drive us home.’
Sam: 'Fine. But she rides in the back.'
